DMV Bites ("Company," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of users of the DMV Bites mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights available to you regarding your personal data. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.
Account Information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, username, and profile photo.
User Content. When you post content, we collect the photos, videos, captions, ratings, and restaurant tags you submit.
Usage Data. We collect data about how you interact with the Service, including posts you like, restaurants you save, profiles you view, searches you conduct, and features you use.
Device and Technical Data. We may collect your device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, IP address, and crash reports for diagnostic and security purposes.
Location Data. With your explicit permission, we collect your approximate geographic location solely to power the Nearby feature. Location data is not stored permanently and is not shared with third parties.
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve the Service; personalize restaurant recommendations and content; enable social features including posts, reviews, and following; process and respond to support requests; enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use; deliver in-app notifications you have opted into; detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties under any circumstances.
Service Providers. We share data with trusted third-party vendors who assist in operating the Service. These providers are contractually bound by confidentiality obligations and may only use your data to perform services on our behalf.
Legal Requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, the safety of users, or the public.
Business Transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide advance notice of any such change through the app.
We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, your personal data — including all posts, reviews, saved places, and profile information — will be permanently deleted within 24 hours.
We may retain certain data for a longer period where required by law or for legitimate purposes such as fraud prevention and abuse detection.
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational safeguards to protect your personal data. Data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS. Data stored on our servers is encrypted at rest. Passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing and are never accessible in plain text.
While we take reasonable precautions, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not responsible for unauthorized access that occurs despite our measures.
Access and Correction. You may update your profile information at any time within the app.
Deletion. You may delete individual posts at any time. You may permanently delete your account via Settings → Delete Account. Account deletion is irreversible.
Data Portability. You may request a copy of your personal data by contacting support@dmvbites.app.
Notification Preferences. You may manage push notification settings within your device settings at any time.
Location Access. You may revoke location permission at any time through your device settings without affecting your ability to use other features of the Service.

The Service integrates the following third-party providers, each subject to their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them independently.
Supabase (supabase.com) — database storage and user authentication
Google Sign-In (policies.google.com/privacy) — optional authentication method
Apple Sign-In (apple.com/legal/privacy) — optional authentication method
Google Maps Platform (cloud.google.com/maps-platform/terms) — restaurant location and mapping data
Anthropic Claude (anthropic.com/privacy) — AI-powered search functionality
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties.
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we become aware that a user under 13 has submitted personal information, we will delete it promptly.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided information to us, please contact support@dmvbites.app immediately.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) including: (i) the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (ii) the right to request deletion of your personal information; and (iii) the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information.

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify you of material changes through the app prior to the change becoming effective. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of any revision constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
